Community Education & Training

We provide education and training programs to organizations, service providers, law enforcement, businesses, parents, and more. These programs can be facilitated virtually or in-person and are intended for general adult audiences unless specified otherwise.

 Our programs include:

Sexual Violence 101  
  • Sexual Violence 101 provides essential, foundational information for understanding the dynamics of and responses to sexual violence. This presentation includes sexual violence definitions & statistics, addresses common myths, explores potential impacts, and outlines resources & response options for people affected by sexual violence.

Sexual Harassment 
  • This program meets the legal mandate for sexual harassment training. The training includes an overview of sexual harassment laws and what they mean for the workplace, how to identify and address issues of sexual harassment, options for reporting, and resources. This training can include an optional policy review for employers who would like SASSMM’s input on their own sexual harassment policy.  
  • Intended audience: workplaces 

Identifying and Responding to Concerns of Child Sexual Abuse  
  • This training builds knowledge related to child sexual abuse including statistics, potential indicators and risk factors, and grooming. Participants will develop skills for responding to concerns and learn about available resources.  

Identifying and Responding to Concerns of Human Trafficking 
  • This training provides foundational information about human trafficking (including labor and sex trafficking), an overview of relevant laws, identifying risks and indicators, and options for response including Maine-specific services.  

Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking of Youth in Maine  
  • This training builds knowledge related to the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) in Maine including legal and cultural perspectives, an overview of the efforts currently in place to support survivors, as well as practical skills to identify and respond to concerns.  
  • Intended audience: anyone working with youth 

Neurobiology of Trauma  
  • This training explores trauma’s impact on the brain and body. Participants will learn common responses to and manifestations of trauma. 

Vicarious Trauma 
  • This training is an overview of vicarious trauma, how it can impact those who work in social services and helping professions, as well as some simple interventions. 
  • Intended audience: service providers 

SASSMM 101  
  • An overview of our agency’s mission and services including Helpline and client support, legal systems advocacy, the Midcoast Children’s Advocacy Center, and educational programs. 

SART 101 
  • An overview of the work and services of our Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) advocates, who provide advocacy within criminal-legal settings.  

MCAC 101  
  • The Midcoast Children's Advocacy Center (MCAC) is a safe, neutral, child-centered program that coordinates a team of specialized professionals following concerns of child sexual abuse. This presentation is an overview of the MCAC service model.
