Job Title:  Forensic Interviewer - Midcoast Children's Advocacy Center 
Job Status: Regular, full-time (40hours); $22.66/hr (estimated annual salary $47,132.80, plus benefits) 
Job Location: Based in Searsport, possible backup support in Boothbay Harbor  
Primary Responsibilities: the forensic interview of children at the MCAC site(s) 

Representative Duties: 

Forensic Interviewing 
  • Attend National Children’s Alliance (NCA) approved trainings for forensic interviewing. Curriculum must be included on NCA’s approved list of nationally or state recognized forensic interview trainings or submitted with the accreditation application 
  • Serve as the primary forensic interviewer and coordinator of forensic interviews at the MCACs in Waldo County with back up support to Boothbay Harbor Office 
  • Maintain knowledge of ongoing research and best-practices in the field of child forensic interviewing, trauma, and child development 
  • Demonstrate participation in ongoing education in the field of child maltreatment and/or forensic interviewing consisting of a minimum of 8 contact hours every 2 years, as required by NCA Accreditation Standards 
  • Participate in structured peer review a minimum of 2 times a year 
  • Coordinate with a team of trained Forensic Interviewers from the MCAC Multi-Disciplinary Team, to serve as back-up interviewers, when needed 
  • Ensure that all interviews conducted at the MCAC are conducted with a focus on the child using an approved interviewing protocol, such as the NCA’s Forensic Interviewing of Children Protocol 
Other 
  • Complete SASSMM 47 hours Advocate Training  
  • Contribute to the Midcoast Children’s Advocacy Center’s application for Accreditation (or alternative membership level) through NCA  
  • Assist with clerical duties, such as answering the phone, typing, filing, mailing, etc. as needed 
  • Work a typical 8:30am-4:30pm M-F schedule, with occasional evening work hours 
  • Perform other duties, as assigned 
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or other related field, or related experience 
  • Familiarity with the dynamics of sexual assault and abuse 
  • Resourcefulness, energy, initiative and excellent organizational skills 
  • Experience working with volunteers 
  • Public speaking experience 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to community members and agency personnel in an effective, mature and professional manner 
  • Ability to relate to survivors in an empathic, patient, and non-judgmental manner 
  • Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, power point 
  • Have access to transportation 
Accountability: Accountable to the MCAC Program Coordinator. Accountable to the Executive Director regarding all agency programming and operations.

Job Title:  Knox (and Lincoln) Systems Advocate 
Job Status: Regular, full-time (40 hrs/wk) Estimated Annual Salary $47,132.80 ($22.66/hr) 
Office Location: SASSMM Brunswick Office or SASSMM Searsport Office, with a minimum of 2 days of in-person work with clients and community partners in Knox County. 

Primary Responsibility: To provide direct advocacy and support to survivors of sexual violence, particularly those engaged in the systems of criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, and healthcare in Knox and Lincoln Counties. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for Knox County courts/police departments and to other local systems partners, while providing essential back-up systems advocacy in Lincoln County. The Systems Advocate will dedicate their time to strengthening multi-disciplinary collaboration by working closely with professionals in law enforcement, prosecution, courts, corrections, and healthcare to improve survivor access to trauma-informed, culturally responsive services.   

Representative Duties: 
Program and Services Delivery 
  • Provide crisis support services for survivors and family members following a sexual assault 
  • Attend weekly, scheduled Protection from Abuse/Harassment hearings at Knox County Court and coordinate and respond to incoming ad hoc client service requests at Knox County Court and, as needed, Lincoln County Court. Occasional coverage for Waldo County and Sagadahoc County Courts.  
  • Provide accompaniment and support of survivors during police interviews or other procedures involving law enforcement, legal proceedings, restorative circles, school accompaniments, etc.  
  • Knox County accompaniments will be triaged to the Systems Advocate for Knox County. If the Knox County Advocate is unable to respond, it will then be triaged to the Rural Services Coordinator for Knox & Waldo County and or the Systems Advocate for Waldo County, and, finally, to Staff Back-Up (SBU). 
  • Lincoln County accompaniments will be triaged to the Systems Advocate for E. Cumberland/Sagadahoc/Lincoln Counties, and then to the Systems Advocate for Knox County, then to the Systems Advocacy and Training Coordinator and, finally, to SBU. 
  • Provide medical forensic exam accompaniment on scheduled days throughout month 
  • Provide follow-up assistance and support to survivors and families, as needed  
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of services and trainings in response to and the prevention of sexual violence and human trafficking 
  • Participate in MECASA’s Systems Services programming, including the collection and sharing of data and best practices for any scheduled reports, peer calls, trainings, and webinars.  
  • Maintain and input all statistical data required by funding and agency requirements 
  • Participate (bi-weekly) in one-on-one supervision with the Systems Coordinator and the Rural Services Coordinator to develop a workplan, ensure self-management and compliance with policies and data collection requirements, and to share feedback and accountability regarding ongoing projects 
  • Work in coordination with other Systems and Rural Advocates for consistency and coverage of services 
  • Establish contact and collaborate with community resources and referral sources 
  • Provide community-based advocacy and support services, as required, including support group services   
  • Attend identified meetings and initiatives that are relevant to the mission of the agency 
  • Attend at least 12 hours of professional development training per year, in consultation with the Systems Coordinator 
  • Assist the Systems Coordinator, as needed 
  • Assist the Rural Services Coordinator, as needed 
Client Services 
  • Complete SASSMM 47 hours Advocate Training  
  • Participate in 24/7 coverage of the 1-800 helpline and respond to all client or volunteer advocate needs associated with staff back-up capacity,  
  • Respond to all client needs associated with Helpline coverage on scheduled days 
  • Support all client needs as identified via the support line, the SASSMM office phone, affiliated schools, or other community partners  
  • Co-facilitate in-person or online support groups, as needed 
  • Perform other duties, as assigned 
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work/life experience 
  • Excellent organizational ability, oral and written communication skills 
  • Training or experience working with diverse and underserved populations 
  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to, issues of sexual violence 
  • Ability to respond to people in crisis and an open-minded nature 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to changing priorities 
  • Excellent computer literacy, organizational, facilitation, and oral and written communication skills 
Accountability: Accountable to the Systems Coordinator and Rural Services Coordinator for any client-related or systems support in their respective counties of service oversight. Accountable to the Executive Director regarding all agency programming and operations.

Office Drop-ins

​Please call the State-wide Sexual Assault Helpline to set up a time with an advocate to meet with you in person at one of our offices. Our advocates are not available to the public in SASSMM/CAC office spaces 24/7. We require an advanced notice to ensure that an advocate can be available and present to meet with you to help address your needs.
